AIK takes the derby
39 387 spectators made their way to Friends Arena and were delivered a thrilling derby match between AIK and Djurgården last night. Expectations were pretty high as for the first time in several years both AIK and Djurgården were both performing well in the league. Going into the match Djurgården was 2nd with 36 points and AIK was 5th with 33 points.
The evening started out decisively in Djurgårdens favor. They won out on the terraces with a fantastic choreography at the start of the match. They also gained the advantage on the pitch when AIK’s Noah Sonko Sundberg was sent off for a challenge on Djurgården striker Nyasha Mushekwi. The man advantage would not be enough for them as they failed to find the goal that would put them ahead.
Eventually it was a 10 man AIK that broke the deadlock, Stefan Ishizaki delivered a free kick into the arena where an unmarked Mohamed Bangura put it away to take the lead. Djurgården would then go on to lose the man advantage as Jesper Arvidsson was sent off for picking up his second yellow. With the playing field now level AIK was able to easily hold out and bring home 3 points.
