First victory in the new arena for Djurgården

I was back at Tele2 Arena last night to photograph the game between Djurgården and Helsingborg. It’s the third match I’ve photographed there, should have been the fourth but I was sick the week of Hammarby-PSG. My feelings on the venue remain extremely positive. There was significantly less spectators than for the premiere match. Only about 11,000 but still the acoustics are so good that the fans can make themselves heard in force. In September when the first derby is played at Tele2 Arena we should be in for a real treat.

As for the game I was expecting Djurgården to lose. They meet the league leaders and I don’t many people went into it expecting them to take points away from Helsingborg. However football is anything but predictable, and Djurgården played a great game against Helsingborg. The visitors opened up the scoring but Djurgården drew level through Godsway Donyoh. A player who in my opinion should probably get more playing time.

At the end of the first half I got to make the great decision. Should I move to the other end of the pitch and have Helsingborg attacking towards me, or should I stay put and have Djurgården coming towards me instead. I opted to stay where I was thinking they just might pull it off.

Pull it off they did. Striker Amadou Jawo brought them into the lead, and they were able to hold of Helsingborg for the remainder of the match. Ultimately for Djurgården’s season the victory means little, they sit in 11th place and remain out of contention for anything. One can even point out that they did do a big favor to their cross city rivals AIK. After this game the gap between first and second place remains at just two points. Still while there are not many prospects left in this season they could at least celebrate defeating the league leaders and winning in the new venue before Hammarby, who shares the venue with them.

That’s all from this one, tonight I’m off to Friends Arena and photographing a friendly between AIK and Manchester United. There probably won’t be much intensity there, but at least I will get to grab some shoots of some internationally acclaimed players. As always these images and more are available via Pic-Agency. Stay tuned.
