Favorite shots from last weeks derby

I had the pleasure of going to and photographing a great hockey match this week. The derby between the two stockholm teams, Djurgården and AIK. AIK was celebrating their 120 years as a club, but unfortunately had the party ruined by Djurgården who tied the match and went on to win it on penalties. Bellow are some of my favorite shots from both matches.

Currently I’m shooting with one camera and using my 70-200 zoom. Because of length it’s often hard for me to get wider shots and I find it way too inconvenient to switch lenses during the match. However the fan support was so good at the derby that I had to get something which included them.

Above is my favorite shot of the night, it was rather crowded with photographers that night and I spent the first two periods behind other photographers trying not to get their heads in my shots. In the 3rd period a lot of them cleared out and you could start to really shoot without having to worry about people being in the way. This shot just comes together easily, good composition and good focus both Andreas Holmqvist (number 7) and Mark Owuya (goal keeper).

Mark Owuya, goal keeper for Djurgården, proved to be the hero that evening when he saved two penalties and won Djurgården the game.
