It’s been a busy week with plenty of sports to shoot. I started out my first two hockey matches of the season filling in for my Pic Agency colleagues at both Djurgården and AIK’s hockey matches.
First up was Djurgården, who is playing in the Swedish second division this season after being relegated. They played against Södertälje SK, which is as close to a derby as we are going to see this season. This was the first time shooting hockey with my Canon EOS-1D X so I was very curious to see how the AF system would cope and how the improved ISO would be.
The above shot of two reporters preparing to go on the air says it all about the 1D X. Shot at ISO 3200 at 1/200th of a second at f/2.8 and it looks great and without visible noise. For the actual game I lowered the ISO and shot at both ISO 2500 and 2000 keeping the shutter at a minimum of 1/1000th of a second.
Pictures from this match are available for licensing via Pic-Agency. Don’t forget to check out part two of this post for more hockey pictures.
