Last night I covered the final of the 2016 Melodifestivalen here in Stockholm for Getty Images. Melodifestivalen is an annual music competition that is used to select Sweden’s entry in the Eurovision Song Contest.
I covered both the final rehearsal, that was held earlier in the day, and the actual live broadcast in the evening. This blog post contains pictures from both mixed together. I’ll leave it to you to try and figure out which ones come from which.
I’m no expert on Melodifestivalen, but being there I thought Frans was one of the people who got the best response from the live audience. Even during the last dress rehearsal it felt like he had a very good chance of winning. So to me it felt like he best artist probably won. However today a lot of “experts” are saying Sweden will not be able to win this year’s Eurovision with this song. There may be something to that, as Frans “If I were sorry” isn’t quite as upbeat and poppy as the songs that tend to win the big Eurovision final.
All in all it was a fantastic assignment. There are some challenges in dealing with stage lights which are always changing, both in terms of temperature and intensity. Also the crowd, which as the night moved along tended to block our shots more and more. But even with those challenges I think everything went off without a hitch.
The final of the Eurovision Song Contest is being held in Stockholm this year, so it’s very likely that I will be covering the final as well.
Thanks for stoping by.
